The Boston Bruins have had a very dramatic off-season, and even with their starting goaltender back, they've made a shocking decision ahead of opening night.

Over the past few weeks, things got very heated between Jeremy Swayman and Don Sweeney specifically, but after so much drama and speculation, the two sides finally came together. With just days before the 2024/25 regular season was set to begin, the Bruins and Swayman ultimately got a deal done, paying the 25-year old $8.25 million per season over the next eight years.

Now, the team are set to open their season on the road against the Florida Panthers (potential cancellation permitting), but it won't be Swayman in net. A few weeks ago, the team confirmed that if a deal couldn't be reached, Joonas Korpisalo would be their starter moving forward, but even after signing a new contract, he reportedly remains set to start in net for the team in game one.

Given Korpisalo's experience, there's a lot worse options out there for the Boston Bruins, but after dealing with Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark for the past few years, it's certainly a step down from that elite level play. Last season with the Ottawa Senators, Korpisalo allowed one of the worst save percentage's in the NHL with a dreadful .890, but with a much more talented team in front of him in Boston, the hope is that he can bounce back and rekindle his form of 2022/23 where he put together a .917 percentage between LA and Columbus.

While it's likely not going to be long before Swayman is ready to go for Boston this season, it still doesn't feel right to see Korpisalo in net with No. 1 locked up for the foreseeable future, so now we wait and see what this Bruins team would have looked like if that deal had not come together.
