David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins is opening up on being benched by his head coach for the entire third period of a game against the Seattle Kraken

It's not often that a player of David Pastrnak's calibre gets benched by their head coach. So, when it does happen, it gets a lot of notice. Pastrnak himself is now responding after being glued to the bench by head coach Jim Montgomery in a game against the Seattle Kraken last night.

Boston Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said little about the incident following the game, but with his team off to a slow start this season, he decided players needed to be more accountable.

Asked about the incident today, and David Pastrnak said he's aware that a turnover late in the second period of the Boston Bruins 2-0 win over the Seattle Kraken was a key factor in what happened, and admits he needs to be better.

"That was a bad turnover. I take responsibility for it. Accountability, I guess, is the best word. I just want to move forward. I don't want to be any distraction to our team. The guys know how I feel about them in here. It was a bad play."

Got to be better. Take responsibility for being better. At the same time, I'm just moving forward today, focusing for another game tomorrow. Yesterday was yesterday. I never look back. Just came in today, worked on my game today."

For those curious about the turnover, David Pastrnak's mistake gave Yanni Gourde three very good chances to get the Seattle Kraken back in the game. Luckily, goaltender Jeremy Swayman was up to the task.

It's great to see someone of David Pastrnak's status in the NHL take responsibility for mistakes. Despite the Boston Bruins difficulties so far this season, Pastrnak remains the team's top scorer, with 6 goals and 5 assists in 13 games. Admitting that he needs to be better is an example of Pastrnak's leadership, and a big reason why teammates respect him so much.
