After less than a season as the team's assistant coach, Hockey Hall-of-Famer and 3x Stanley Cup Champion Mark Recchi was fired by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

There is no doubt that Mark Recchi is a hockey star. Making his NHL debut with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1988-89 season, Recchi went on to have one of the longest and most productive careers. In 1652 games, he has posted 1533 career points. He has also won the Stanley Cup three times. After his win in 1991 with Pittsburgh, he later found success with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006 and with the Boson Bruins in his last season in the league at 42 years old. It was only a matter of time before he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
"A big thank you to Hurricanes alumnus Mark Recchi for dropping the ceremonial puck for #PITvsCAR tonight.

The three-time Stanley Cup Champion was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a part of the Class of 2017. Congrats, Mark!"
Despite his career of success on the ice, there have been questions about his ability to coach effectively. After a short stint with the New Jersey Devils, Recchi was relieved of his assistant coaching duties, along with one of his cohorts Alain Nasreddine.
"#NEWS: We have mutually agreed to part ways with Assistant Coach Alain Nasreddine, as his contract will not be renewed. Additionally, Assistant Coach Mark Recchi has been relieved of his duties."
Now, Recchi has once more been cut from NHL coaching staff. After being hired partway into the last season, he was recently informed he will no longer be working for the Columbus Blue Jackets. As of now, no replacement has been named.
"Assistant coach Mark Recchi has been informed he will not be back with #CBJ next season.

That's a rough ride for an NHL Hall of Famer w 3 Stanley Cup rings - fired after only one season after joining the franchise last Sept mid-training camp following the Babcock debacle. Recchi had one year remaining on his contract w #CBJ. The club has not announced his replacement on Dean Evason's staff."
Having been fired so soon after his hire is bad enough, but having been fired twice in the last couple of years is undoubtedly worse. He will always be respected as a star player, but with his reputation as a coach continuing to diminish, it will probably take longer for Mark Recchi to get back to work in the NHL.
