The Chicago Blackhawks dealt with a major Corey Perry scandal last year, and now a Blackhawks insider has addressed it with a major question.

The 2023/24 NHL season was a wild ride for Corey Perry, as he began by having his contract terminated by the Blackhawks before ultimately competing in a losing effort in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The details behind his departure from Chicago are still sketchy at best, and now Blackhawks reporter Mark Lazarus of The Athletic has revealed what he knows about the situation.
«I've been asked «what really happened» by my poker buddies, my cardiologist and my own family. My response is always the same: We've reported what we can report. Do we know more than you do? Yes. But the bar to clear is very high when it comes to sensitive stories like this one. Until we have every detail of the story (not merely dribs and drabs), backed up and corroborated by sufficient sources, we won't report any of them. And we may never.

"A better question, one I really want to know: How much do the Edmonton Oilers know? Just scratching the surface here. I'll have Part 2 of the mailbag soon.»
In the piece, Lazarus admits he has further details than what has been revealed to the public, but until he knows the entire story, he won't reveal too much. What was interesting was the end of his piece where he questioned the Edmonton Oilers and what they knew about the situation, suggesting that they may not have all the details of what happened that led to his contract being terminated.
With the team now hiring Stan Bowman as their new General Manager, questions have to be asked around the character of any hire, so now we will have to wait and see whether or not the entire story ever sees the light of day.
