Nazem Kadri may not want to see out a rebuild in Calgary, and now it's been revealed that he may welcome a return to a former team.

When the Calgary Flames landed Nazem Kadri on a seven-year deal, they were expected to contend throughout the length of his contract, but two years later, the team have officially moved towards a rebuild. After trading away the likes of Jacob Markstrom, Andrew Mangiapane and the huge list of names they moved through the 2023/24 season, it appears as though Kadri may be next.
According to insider David Pagnotta, the Flames are exploring the trade market for Kadri, and while he has a no-movement clause, it appears as though he would welcome a return to his former team.
"My understanding with respect to (Kadri) is that he's willing to waive (the no-move clause) for the right situation. I think he would welcome a return to Colorado or farther East, somewhere closer to home."
At this point in time, it's unclear whether or not talks with the Flames and Kadri have ever gone far enough to discuss a trade, but with Calgary likely to be three years minimum away from competing for a Stanley Cup Playoff spot, it would make sense if he wanted to leave. Beyond that, it makes great sense for Toronto, as John Tavares is likely to leave in free agency a year from now, allowing Kadri to slide into the 2C role, so with the off-season rolling on, expect to see more of this chatter moving forward.
