Good afternoon Montreal Canadiens fans, we have an update on your savior Ivan Demidov's situation with SKA in the KHL. The 2024 5th overall pick could potentially be joining the Habs next season if things break their way.

If St. Petersburg doesn't keep Demidov with the KHL team, expect the Canadiens to negotiate a transfer fee for him, similar to what the Flyers did with Matvei Michkov. Michkov, the No. 7 pick from last year's draft, will now play for the Flyers next season. If the Canadiens can negotiate a transfer fee with St. Petersburg, we could see Demidov in the NHL next season too.
Demidov had a rollercoaster season, missing half of it due to three injuries. Despite that, he finished second in the scoring race with 60 points in just 30 games. In the playoffs, Demidov elevated his play with 28 points in 17 games. Although he missed the Kharlamov Cup clinching game, he was on the ice in crutches for the celebration.

Demidov is projected to be a crucial part of the Habs return to Stanley Cup contention in a couple years time, so him potentially being granted permission to play in the states soon should expedite the development clock.
