The Florida Panthers achieved an incredible feat in 2024: winning their first Stanley Cup. Per tradition, the team and players' names were etched into the Cup shortly after defeating the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 of the Finals.
Among the players now immortalized on the Cup is 26-year-old defenseman Josh Mahura. Mahura played 82 games in the 2022-23 season, but only 30 in the following, not making an appearance for the playoffs. He has since signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Kraken.
Though Mahura did not make an on-ice appearance in this year's playoffs and is no longer part of the Florida Panthers, he still got his day with Lord Stanley. Mahura was first photographed showing his name on the Cup to a family in Alberta.
With little ice time last season with Florida and a retooling emergency in Seattle, this could have been Josh Mahura's only chance with the Stanley Cup. Thankfully, he took the opportunity to make the most of honoring hockey legacies, even those that could have been.
