It hasn't been a very good season for Montreal Canadiens defenceman Jeff Petry. His production has significantly dropped off from previous seasons and the 34-year-old may be looking to move on from the Canadiens soon, according to Tony Marinaro of TSN 690 radio.

Earlier on Sunday, La Presse, a news outlet based in Montreal, published an interview with general manager Kent Hughes. In that article, Hughes said that Petry hasn't asked for a trade away from Montreal, but the option to leave the Canadiens remains open. He spoke with Petry and told him that if both sides can work something out, they'll trade him.

"We told him: we are aware of what is happening in your life. This is not the ideal context to play. At the same time, you are part of this team. If there's a chance it will work out on both sides to trade you, we'll trade you. But until this situation arises, you are part of the Canadiens and you have to do your best."

Hughes added, "Besides, Jeff is not the youngest player in the world. If it comes up, that we can improve the future of our team and improve the circumstances for Jeff, we will do it. Otherwise, Jeff is part of the Canadiens."

TSN 690's Tony Marinaro tweeted on Sunday that Petry won't be with the Montreal Canadiens next season, adding that the Ann Arbor, Michigan native wants out.

"Like I have been saying on-air for a month now, Jeff Petry, will not be a Montreal Canadien when next season starts. As much as he wants out, the Habs too want to move on," Marinaro said.

The Canadiens are going to be an interesting team to watch leading up to the deadline. Plenty of their players are garnering interest from teams around the league. Ben Chiarot is the most likely to be dealt in the weeks leading up to March 21st, but others that have been in the rumour mill lately are Artturi Lehkonen, and pending UFA Brett Kulak.

In 37 games this season, Petry has six points (one goal, five assists), eighteen penalty minutes and is a minus-seven.
