Ken Holland is making his return to the NHL, as he has just been hired to take on the role of NHL Hockey Operations Consultant.

Colin Campbell, NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations, announced that Ken Holland has joined the NHL as a consultant to its Hockey Operations Department, one of the most respected figures in management. His experience and legacy are coming league-wide to the NHL's headquarters.

The broad stroke of Holland's managerial career encompasses more than 27 years with 22 as general manager of the Detroit Red Wings and five seasons as president of hockey operations and GM for the Edmonton Oilers.

In his recent tenuring with the Oilers, Holland led the team to its first Stanley Cup Final in nearly two decades, a resurgence for the franchise.

He joined the Oilers from an illustrious career with the Detroit Red Wings. During his tenure, Detroit captured four Stanley Cups: 1997, 1998, 2002, and 2008, in addition to capturing 10 division titles.

In 2,061 games managed, Holland stands within the top five active general managers of all time in the NHL in both victories and games managed with over 1,145 wins.

On the international stage, the Vernon, B.C., native has been a staple of Canadian hockey, playing on teams that won gold at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics and the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

Holland's dedication to the game extends well beyond his own teams, as he serves on the NHL/NHLPA Competition Committee and the GM Executive Committee, driving initiatives like three-on-three overtime that was introduced in the 2015-16 season.

Before he was a management man, Holland was a goaltender, drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1975.

The little-used netminder played in four NHL games with the Hartford Whalers and Red Wings, rounding out a career in hockey that now continues in an influential role at the league level.
