The NHL hosted their annual Hockey Hall of Fame legends game tonight as they welcomed a new class of players into the Hall of Fame. Among the legends participating tonight were Wayne Simmonds, Eric Lindros, and several players from the newest class including Shea Weber, and of course, Jeremy Roenick. After the game, Roenick celebrated his team's victory by skating around and dancing for the crowd, shaking his hips and pointing his fingers in jubilation.
The Blackhawks legend also sported a custom pair of gloves he wore for the game, commemorating his lifetime accomplishment of making the HHoF, something only a handful of players have done in the history of the sport.
Roenick is part of a fairly large class as we saw seven players inducted into this year. They include Natalie Darwitz, David Poile, Pavel Datsyuk, Colin Campbell, Krissy Wendell, Shea Weber, and of course, Roenick himself. It is a diverse and unique class featuring some of the all-time great scorers such as Datsyuk as well as one of the best two-way defenders of the modern era in Shea Weber and American women's hockey icon Natalie Darwitz.
Since the legends game is more of an exhibition game than anything else, many of the players were not taking things too seriously. Roenick appeared to buck that trend though, even scoring a goal on a penalty shot! Granted, it was not the craziest move of all time, but they don't ask how, they ask how many right?
It was a feat he accomplished 513 times throughout his NHL career, often times making it look easy when scoring goals in the NHL is just about the hardest thing possible in the sport. Of course, Roenick was no slouch as a playmaker either, recording over 700 assists for 1216 career points. It is about time he is finally recognized for his greatness.
