Martin St. Louis announced that he'll take on an additional position with the Montreal Canadiens after recent coaching staff changes.
The Hockey Hall of Famer Martin St. Louis will start his third full season as the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens. Today, the team held their annual Golf Tournament, which kicks off the training camp.
Owner Geoff Molson, VP Jeff Gorton, general manager Kent Hughes, Martin St. Louis, and multiple players spoke with the media in a press conference, and we learned many interesting things.
One of the things that caught our attention was hearing St. Louis talk about his role next season.
Indeed, Alex Burrows announced that he was stepping down as assistant coach to become a player development consultant. Since joining the Canadiens, he was always the coach assigned to the power play. Now that he's gone, that task will fall on Martin St. Louis, as he announced earlier today:
In 2023-24, the Habs ended the season ranked 27th in the NHL, with a 17.46% power play percentage.
The Canadiens will definitely be one of the teams to watch this season. While they are still rebuilding, this year could mark an important step in their development.
