Alexander Barabanov has his bags packed and he's heading overseas to the KHL's AK Bars Kazan, after his trade request was denied in the NHL.

Barabanov appeared in 46 games for the San Jose Sharks last season and was a UFA this summer. He only managed four goals and 13 points for the Sharks, which was a major step back from the previous season when he had a career-high 47 points. His ice-time was also slashed last season.

Barabanov demanded a trade from the Sharks prior to last season's deadline, but they were unable to find a suitor and ultimately denied his request. He was then forced to play out the remainder of the season on a terrible Sharks team. He was very upset with the Sharks over this.

Barabanov has left the NHL for good and has signed with the KHL's AK Bars Kazan in Russia. He isn't the first player to do this, as many have been leaving the NHL for Russia lately.

After 4 seasons in the NHL (107 PTS in 206 GP), 30-year-old forward Alexander Barabanov returns home.

The 30-year-old started his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2020 but only suited up for 13 of their games, registering a single assist. He was later traded to the Sharks, where things once again didn't pan out.
