Though Fletcher has been widely recognized as a failed staff personnel in the NHL, he is getting another shot behind the scenes with a different team. The New Jersey Devils have officially signed the former GM as their senior advisor.
This is part of a larger staff change for New Jersey, which is working desperately to compile the right team for Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald. Alongside Fletcher, Andy Greene will return as another advisor, while Manny Leagce will serve as an amateur goaltending scout and development coach.
Though it seems clear he will not get another shot at a GM position, Devils fans are broadly upset about the decision to hire him as the team's senior advisor. Provided his stint with the Flyers, there is little reason to wonder why.
Though this is not the outcome Devils fans would like, his position with the team has much less decision-making power, making it less likely that he will cause the same level of damage he did in Philadelphia. Hopefully, he has taken his time away from the league to learn from his mistakes. Otherwise, it could be another failed offseason in New Jersey.
