The Edmonton Oilers forward group is one of the most stacked in the NHL, and now they've released an intriguing PTO option in former 30-goal scorer Mike Hoffman.

After reaching the Stanley Cup Finals a season ago, the Edmonton Oilers loaded up on their forward group in the summer, with Jeff Skinner and Victor Arvidsson both expected to take huge roles with the team. One of their more intriguing additions however was former Montreal Canadien Mike Hoffman, coming off a season of 23 points with the San Jose Sharks, with the team giving him a professional tryout.

However, they've now officially announced on social media that the team have released Hoffman from the PTO after a solid yet unremarkable training camp with the Oilers, making him a free agent once more.

At 34-years of age, this is a move that makes sense for the Oilers, as they have the likes of Matthew Savoie and Vasily Podkolzin in the organization that can likely provide the same type of production at a much younger age. It's unclear where Hoffman will go from here, as he played a small role on the Sharks last season and now faces free agency in a league with very few spots up for grabs, especially on the wing.

Hoffman hasn't scored more than 20 goals since the 2019/20 campaign, so it's unclear just how productive he can be at this stage of his career, so for now as the Oilers look to build their Stanley Cup roster, we will wait and see what the future holds for Hoffman.
