Pittsburgh Penguins announce 14 roster cuts as training camp continues

The Pittsburgh Penguins made an absolutely massive roster cut today, sending down 14 players from their training camp as they get closer to the regular season.

On Thursday afternoon, the Pittsburgh Penguins cut 14 players from their training camp roster, paring down the number of bodies on the ice competing for a spot on the team as preseason rolls on.

Among the forwards let go were Raivis Ansons, Jack Beck, Atley Calvert, Mathieu De St. Phalle, Sam Houde, Gabe Klassen, Bennett MacArthur, and Logan Pietila. Defensively, Isaac Belliveau, Scooter Brickey, Justin Lee, Mats Lindgren, and Phillip Waugh were all also sent home. Goaltender Luke Richardson was the lone netminder included in this round of releases.

All 14 players will report to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's training camp, the Penguins' AHL affiliate, where they'll continue their development.

This was the third wave of roster cuts since Pittsburgh's training camp opened on September 18. To date, none of these players have played in either of the Penguins' two preseason games thus far.

Most notable within the latest cuts are Raivis Ansons, selected by Pittsburgh in the fifth round with the 149th overall pick of the 2020 NHL Draft, and Isaac Belliveau, a fifth-round pick, chosen 154th overall from the 2021 draft.

As the team further whittles down its choices for the regular season, 52 players remain in Penguins camp. With preseason matchups still ongoing, the coaching staff will be sure to closely assess the remaining names on the roster before coming to a final determination as to who'll dress for the team's regular season.

With the start of the regular season nearing, Penguins fans cannot wait to find out who the final roster will be as the team looks to get back into the playoffs after missing it the last two seasons.
