Tage Thompson of the Buffalo Sabres believes the team should make a switch to their alternate jerseys as the team's full-time logo and jersey going forward.

The Buffalo Sabres' third jersey, known for its iconic black and red "goathead" design, has become a fan favorite, with many players, such as Tage Thompson, wanting it to be the team's main uniform. The Sabres have had many different jerseys in their 54-year history, some great and some not so much.

The goathead jersey was first introduced in 1996 during a successful time for the team, which included three Eastern Conference Finals and a trip to the Stanley Cup Final in 1999. Despite being linked to some of the team's best moments, the jersey was retired after the 2005-06 season and replaced with less popular designs that reflected the team's recent struggles.

In 2021, the NHL brought back the goathead design as part of its Reverse Retro collection, but it featured different colors. In 2022, the Sabres reintroduced the classic black and red goathead as their third jersey, and it was a hit. Players not only liked the design but also played better in it, with an 18-7-2 record while wearing it.

As the Sabres aim to end their 13-year playoff drought, making the goathead jersey their full-time uniform might give them the boost they need. Its nostalgic appeal, along with its popularity among the players and fans and success on the ice, makes it a strong candidate to become the team's permanent look.
