Kyle Dubas buries John Tavares in new interview
Former Leafs' GM Kyle Dubas has spoken out about his biggest mistake while with the Leafs, and absolutely buried John Tavares in his latest interview.
Dubas opened up about his time in Toronto while being interviewed by The Athletic's Craig Custance, and revealed that his biggest regret was surrounded around the pursuit of John Tavares during the 2018 free agency period and the impact it had on other contracts.
«The thing I learned was once we signed John to the (AAV) we did, it lifted the lid on the entire ceiling,» Dubas said.
Money has always been tight for the Leafs, which led many fans to wonder why Dubas spent so much on signing Tavares, when they clearly had to deal with internal issues surrounding the contracts of some of their other big name players, such as Marner and Nylander.

Now that it appears Dubas claims to have overpaid for Tavares, fans in Pittsburgh are hoping he won't make the same mistakes again, as the Penguins have some big decisions regarding some of their key players, in the months that lie ahead.
