The New York Rangers had a deal ready to go that would have sent Jacob Trouba to his hometown Red Wings, however he blocked the trade, leading to no deal.

There is nothing wrong with what Trouba did, as he had placed Detroit on his no-trade list prior to submitting it to the Rangers, however the reason people are shocked is because Trouba is from Michigan, therefore many thought he would have loved the idea to go play in front of his hometown fans.
It was crazy to learn that Trouba, a Michigan native, added DET to his no-trade list when he heard that's where #NYR wanted to send him.

All legal, too, as he did it before he submitted it to NYR.

Reports getting out changed everything for NYR.

What an ugly situation.
Trouba had a decent year for the Rangers, scoring 3 goals and adding another 19 assists in the 69 games he played for them. He did slightly struggle to help his team keep goals out of their net, as he only had a +/- rating of -4, perhaps one of the reasons the Rangers are looking to move on from him.
Sunday @NYCNeil discussed the difficult situation w/#NYR & Trouba & how it can be difficult for a GM to navigate.

Any team would be grateful to have a leader like Trouba who also brings a heavy physical presence, but we now know for sure, it won't be his hometown Red Wings.
