The Edmonton Oilers made a major move today as they have signed free agent forward Jeff Skinner to a one-year contract.

Skinner was bought out by the Buffalo Sabres after he put up 24 goals and 46 points in 74 games last season. He was still a decent player for the team, but it was a pretty significant step back from his point-per-game season the year before. This made it possible for the Oilers to grab him for a measly 3 million dollars on a one-year deal.
1 year x $3 million for Skinner in Edmonton.

Based on public analytics models, this move is an absolute steal for the Oilers. Skinner will likely be a negative impact player in terms of defense, but he adds even more firepower to an already elite forward core. As such, the team should be able to outscore their problems with ease next season.
Jeff Skinner has signed with the Edmonton Oilers to a one-year, $3M deal. That's another brilliant move by Edmonton! Skinner is a TOP6 offensive winger. And you know, Skinner has a big chance to be another O'Reilly, Eichel, Reinhart guy. Leaving Buffalo & win the Cup.
Notably, Skinner has never played in the playoffs. This contract should give him an opportunity to do so as the Oilers figure to be easy favorites for another run after making the finals this year.
