The charge is considered a misdemeanor. While misdemeanors in most states carry a maximum jail sentence of one year, in Massachusetts, it can be up to two and a half years. That doesn't mean Lucic will spend any time in jail. It will be up to the judge to decide on that if he is convicted of the charge.
Over the weekend, it was made public that Lucic's wife had called 9-1-1 early Saturday morning to report that her husband had allegedly attacked and choked her. A police report said Lucic appeared intoxicated when officers arrived at the scene. Lucic has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the Bruins, and his career is likely in jeopardy if the allegations are proven true in court.
