Former NHLer Marko Dano receives suspension for slash at the Olympics (w/video)
Marko Dano, a former first-round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets, has received a suspension at the Olympics after a slash to the face of an opponent. Dano, who is representing Slovakia, delivered the slash to Iiro Pakarinen of Finland late in the third period on Thursday. He will sit for one game.
"The Disciplinary Panel determined that because Dano was aware of where Pakarinen was on the ice as he skated around him, his action of swinging his stick in the direction of Pakarinen's head, while not with a high degree of force, put Pakarinen in an extremely dangerous situation, and violated IIHF Official Player Rule 61 - Slashing," said the International Ice Hockey Federation in a release.
Dano will miss Slovakia's game against Sweden as a result. The 27-year-old played 141 regular season games in the NHL for the Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks, Winnipeg Jets, and Colorado Avalanche.
