Ontario junior B team under investigation over alleged bounty

The London Nationals of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League are under investigation over an alleged bounty placed on a member of a rival hockey team. According to the London Free Press, a bounty of $100 was offered to a member of the Nationals to target a player with the Komoka Kings. The bounty was alleged to have been offered during a conversation between a Nationals player and owner Paul Duarte.

"That's what it's focused around and the contents of that conversation are an allegation at this point," Ontario Hockey Federation executive director Phillip McKee told the London Free Press. "We're going to allow our fact finder to do his job...based on interviews of individuals."

An email sent to potential interview subjects by the OHF states they are expected to comply with the investigation as registered members of the federation while playing in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

The owner of the Nationals, as well as the owner of the Komoka Kings team both declined to comment on the investigation. There's no word on how long it will take.

The GOJHL has been on a pause for a month and a half due to COVID but is set to resume shortly. This allegation stems from an incident that took place three months ago.
