Top NHL insider Kevin Weekes made some shocking comments recently where he revealed the most likely team to land Penguins' Sidney Crosby in a trade.

The Pittsburgh Penguins' 2024-25 NHL season has taken a grim turn, with a sluggish 7-10-4 record through their first 21 games.

Their struggles have reignited a bold, albeit far-fetched, conversation in hockey circles: could Sidney Crosby really be on the trade block?

Crosby, who signed a two-year contract extension just a short time ago, is once again having his name pop up in hypothetical trade suggestions.

One of the men stirring the pot is NHL insider Kevin Weekes, who took it to the next level on NHL Network this week by naming a possible fit for the Penguins' captain should such a blockbuster ever come to fruition.

According to Weekes, the Nashville Predators could be a very interesting fit for Crosby.

«Why not Sidney Crosby on Broadway?» Weekes said referring to the Nashville Predators. «They need a center. They need a left-handed center To me from a team, and a fit, and a need.»

The Nashville Predators came into the season with high expectations after spending big in free agency to bring in star players such as Steven Stamkos, Brady Skjei, and Jonathan Marchessault to complement their core of Filip Forsberg, Roman Josi, and Juuse Saros.

Still, despite their roster full of stars, the Predators have struggled to this point in the season, sitting near dead last in the league with a paltry 6-11-3 record.

The most glaring weakness for Nashville has been the lack of depth at center.

With Ryan O'Reilly offering a solid option in the top six, the supporting cast of Colton Sissons, Juuso Parssinen, and Michael McCarron leaves much to be desired.

Weekes guessed Crosby could fill this hole, drastically changing the Predators' fortunes. But what would it take for Nashville to pry Crosby from Pittsburgh?

It was a bold, almost fairytale-like package that Weekes proposed would get the deal done.

If anything, the specifics of his suggestion only add to the unlikelihood of such a move, but it does give a sense of how transformative Crosby could be for the Predators.

It's easy to daydream about Crosby in Predators black and gold, surrounded by their current roster, a veritable dream team.

But even with the promise of a superstar-laden lineup, Nashville really needs to shore up their existing situation before they go making such a dramatic play.

When it comes to the Penguins, any speculation about trading Crosby seems destined to stay just that way out in fantasy land.

Despite a rough start, Pittsburgh seemingly is still committed to keeping their franchise icon, regardless of the Predators' struggles or any wild proposals that may come their way.
