The St. Louis Blues are off to an average start this year, and now they're shaking things up with Kasperi Kapanen officially hitting waivers on Monday.

Through 19 games this season, the Blues have fumbled a hot start to sit at 8-10-1 thus far, but with some talented players throughout the roster, they've managed to stay fairly competitive all season long.

Now, they've made a waiver move that has surprised everyone in the NHL, as they have officially placed a veteran on waivers on Monday after a very, very slow start to the new campaign.

First reported by Elliotte Friedman, the team have moved on from 28-year old Kasperi Kapanen, a former first-round pick who entered his third season with the Blues in 2024/25.

Unfortunately, through 10 games he has contributed just 1 goal and no assists, but with the team needing the forward depth after injuries to Dylan Holloway and Robert Thomas this year, they're hoping he can clear waivers and head back to the AHL.

While he's been poor in 2024/25, Kapanen has a history of being a solid performer, with his first season in St. Louis seeing him score 8 goals and 14 points in just 23 games played.

Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to score more than 13 goals since the 2018/19 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and with a -6 differential in those 10 games he has played this year, it was time to move on for the team.

In 470 career games played, Kapanen has tallied 85 goals and 209 points, and while he never lived up to the billing of a first-round pick, he's been solid wherever he goes.

Now, it's unclear what the future holds, but with many teams out there needing depth on the wing, don't be surprised to see him claimed as a cheap option to fill a hole on a team somewhere.
