An official report confirmed that a 20-goal scorer for the Toronto Maple Leafs may not return this season after undergoing surgery on Monday.

It seems that the Maple Leafs' head coach Craig Berube will have to keep working without a key member of the team's bottom six, as Calle Jarnkrok's status just changed.

Jarnkrok, who hasn't played a game this season yet, will miss a lot more time, as he underwent groin and sports hernia surgery today.

The Maple Leafs made an official announcement on X a few minutes ago, in which they also revealed that Jarnkork is now listed as month-to-month:

Jarnkrok, the 33-year-old Swedish forward, joined the Maple Leafs in 2022, where he had a career-high tally of 20 goals and 19 assists during his first season in Toronto.

Drafted 51st overall by the Detroit Red Wings back in 2010, the 6-foot center took part in 699 games in the NHL so far for the Nashville Predators, Seattle Kraken, Calgary Flames, and Maple Leafs.

He also took part in 10 playoff runs in his career, tallying 22 points, including five goals, in 93 games.

With forwards Auston Matthews and Max Pacioretty already sidelined with injuries, as well as Ryan Reaves' five-game suspension for his dirty hit on Darnell Nurse, the Leafs lineup has holes in it.

As of now, Jarnkrok hasn't been placed on the Long-Term Injury Reserve, but the Leafs are likely to put him there retroactively, as he hasn't played since May 4th, in the first round of the playoffs against the Boston Bruins.

If Brad Treliving wants to make a move to replace Jarnkrok on the lineup, that's what he should do.

Meanwhile, it'll be up to other players to step up while he's away. Nick Robertson and Pontus Holmberg, who have been struggling this season, are both expected to step up, like the Leafs summer acquisition Steve Lorentz.
