Last night, the Penguins won an important game against their rivals Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals.
Not only did they manage to stop Ovi from adding his name to the scoresheet amid his hot streak, but they scored four goals, thanks to Erik Karlsson and Evgeni Malkin's two-point tallies.
The team is having a weekend off and as they prepare for their next game on Monday against the Detroit Red Wings, they announced two big roster moves.
First, goaltender Tristan Jarry is returning to the NHL after his two-week conditioning stint expired.
Then, they sent the veteran Matthew Nieto to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL on a conditioning loan.
Here's their official statement, as seen on X:
Nieto, 32, was drafted 47th overall in 2011 by the San Jose Sharks. After spending the first four seasons of his NHL career with the Sharks, he joined the Colorado Avalanche for a few years before going back to San Jose for three more years. He joined the Avs again in 2022-23 and ended up signing a two-year, $900,000 AAV deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2023-24.
In 673 regular season games, the left winger scored 86 goals and 117 assists. He added eight goals and 13 assists in 62 playoff games.
Last season, with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Nieto underwent a knee surgery, limiting him to 22 games.
The organization hopes to see him get some of his rhythm back in the AHL before giving him a shot with the main team's lineup.
