The NHL's Department of Player Safety will be looking closely at a hit from the LA Kings Tanner Jeannot on Brock Boeser of the Vancouver Canucks.

The NHL's Department of Player Safety is likely already reviewing footage of this one. Tanner Jeannot of the LA Kings would be very lucky to escape suspension after a nasty hit last night on Brock Boeser of the Vancouver Canucks.

Around halfway through the first period of last night's game between the LA Kings and Vancouver Canucks, Tanner Jeannot caught Brock Boeser in the chin with a hit that Boeser clearly didn't see coming. Boeser, who was in a lot of pain, left the game and was unable to return. Jeannot received a match penalty and was sent to the showers.

Because it was a match penalty, Sportsnet reports it triggers an automatic review by Player Safety, and I don't see any way here that Jeannot escapes a suspension.

While this seems like a pretty open and shut case, there's been plenty of controversy when it comes to the NHL's department of Player Safety lately. Juraj Slafkovsky of the Montreal Canadiens recently called out DoPS for not handing out supplemental discipline on a hit he took from Noel Acciari of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Still, Player Safety marches to the beat of its own drum and seems to care very little about what fans think. The lack of consistency from the Department over the years has been staggering, leaving many confused over what should be punished by DoPS and what shouldn't. We'll have to wait and see what happens here, but I really don't think Tanner Jeannot is getting out of this one without a fine and/or temporary ban.
