The Calgary Flames were potentially up for a reunion with a former captain, but their General Manager seemingly doesn't want to make it happen.

Despite being 41-years of age, Mark Giordano has no interest in retiring from the NHL, with plenty of reports revealing that he wants to play on in 2024/25 after spending last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs. While he likely isn't up for a significant role anywhere around the league, it would make sense if a contending team brought him in for depth, and now it's been revealed that he has talked to three Canadian teams.

Two of those were his former teams the Maple Leafs and the Flames, but according to Sportsnet's Eric Francis, Craig Conroy, former teammate of Giordano and current Flames GM wanted no part of it. On paper, this makes perfect sense given that the Flames currently have two stars on the blue line, several solid role players and three young names coming through the organization, and after adding Tyson Barrie recently, there just isn't room for him.

In Toronto and Edmonton, there's much better fits for Giordano, who tallied 9 points in 46 games for the Leafs a season ago, but if he doesn't find a team before the regular season begins, we may be looking at a player that's forced into retirement due to a lack of interest, only time will tell however.
