The 2018 World Juniors scandal has dominated hockey headlines for quite some time, and now one of the players involved has seemingly hit rock bottom.

While there's still so much to go before we have answers on the five players involved in the 2018 World Juniors scandal, and in the wake of the charges, they seem to be taking some different routes. Dillon Dube and Michael McLeod are both headed to Europe to play in the KHL, while Carter Hart and Cal Foote are both training for a return to hockey in some capacity.

However, the final player Alex Formenton has taken a very different approach to his future since the charges were laid against them, reportedly taking up a blue collar job, a far cry from his once promising future as a professional hockey player.

Formenton lives in Barrie, Ont., and has "moved on from a hockey career," the court documents state, but is working full time in construction and getting "ongoing training in the operation of heavy equipment as well as the administration aspects of his new trade."

Given the gravity of the situation, many have criticized the system for allowing the players to continue in their hockey career, but for Formenton, he has seemingly accepted his fate and is looking to move on to a genuine blue collar job. Before the charges became official, Formenton was playing in Switzerland while the other four were all in the NHL, so perhaps this move away from hockey wasn't entirely his decision, but if the charges result in a guilty verdict, we may see all of them gone from hockey.

For now though, the judge has allowed them all to skip their pretrial arguments for what has been classified 'compelling economic reasons', so we will need to continue waiting for an answer on their situation with an upcoming 2025 trial.
