Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Laurent Brossoit undergoes major surgery
This afternoon the Chicago Blackhawks received frustrating news that goaltender Laurent Brossoit is dealing with a major injury heading into the 2024-25 season.
The Chicago Blackhawks are looking to take a major step forward in Connor Bedard's second NHL season. As part of that several upgrades to the roster have been made. One of those major upgrades was the signing of goalie Laurent Brossoit
Today just a couple of months later it has been announced that his first season as a Chicago Blackhawk is off to a rough start. Reports are confirming Laurent Brossoit has had surgery on his meniscus and will be out for around 5 to 7 weeks.
This means that the Chicago Blackhawks will have to survive with Petr Mrazek as their main starter at the beginning of the season. Last season with the Blackhawks Petr Mrazek played 56 games and amassed a 3.05 goals against average and a 0.908 save percentage.
Once Laurent Brossoit returns from his injury the Chicago Blackhawks could have a true goaltender battle on their hands. In his 2023-24 campaign playing for the Winnipeg Jets Laurent Brossoit had a 2.00 goals against average and a 0.927 save percentage in just 23 games. If Laurent Brossoit can sustain these numbers in a larger sample size he could be the Chicago Blackhawks' answer in goal.
For now, the Chicago Blackhawks will have to make things work until Laurent Brossoit returns. Once he does it will be interesting to see what the Blackhawks' plan of attack is for their goaltending rotation.
