Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have turned the Edmonton Oilers franchise around, and now the two stars are set to re-up their deals with the Oilers.

The Edmonton Oilers experienced heartbreak in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2024, but with a superstar duo leading the way, there is optimism for the future of this organization. Now, that future is getting a whole lot brighter, as Leon Draisaitl is reportedly set to ink a new deal in the coming weeks and months that locks him in with the Oilers for the next eight years.
Up after that is captain Connor McDavid, and according to Oilers insider Frank Seravalli, the two could both lock in at an amazing discount, with the prediction that their salaries will come in under $30 million a year combined.
On paper, that could still make them the two highest paid players in the NHL, but with so much potential and so much production already behind them, they should blow Auston Matthews latest deal ($13.25 M) by AAV out of the water completely. On paper, there's no one in the league that deserves more, as these two have been so critical to turning the organization from a mess to a perennial contender, and it would be a shock to many if they didn't win multiple Cup's in their run, so this could end up being a bargain.
McDavid is extension eligible in the summer of 2025, with his contract officially running out in 2026, but if the duo remain long-term, we may be looking at success comparable to the 1980's Oilers very soon.
