This afternoon the Toronto Maple Leafs have made a major splash trade as the NHL Draft concludes by acquiring Chris Tanev from the Dallas Stars.

Today reports are confirming the Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired the rights to defenseman Chris Tanev from the Dallas Stars. In return the Stars will receive a 2026 7th round selection and Max Ellis.

While the Maple Leafs have acquired Chris Tanev's rights he still does not have a contract and could be a free agent as of Monday. With this trade the Maple Leafs are expected to extend Chris Tanev in the next few hours.
This trade provides a massive upgrade to the defensive unit of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Dallas Stars added a draft pick and a player for Chris Tanev who was going to leave on Monday anyway.
