Gary Bettman's most recent decision has just screwed over Marc-Andre Fleury in a very personal fashion.
Bettman Prevents Fleury From Showing Support For Native American Heritage Night
Marc Andre-Fleury had special plans lined up to show his support for Native American Heritage night. Fleury, whose wife is Native American, had a custom face mask designed to show his support for the event.
Gary Bettman and the NHL, however, informed him that he will not be allowed to wear the helmet, even in warmups.
As part of Native American Heritage Night and to honor his wife, who is native, Marc-Andre Fleury had a custom-designed mask created by Cole Redhorse Taylor. Mask quotes his dad on back, has names of his kids.

Fleury had originally planned to wear the helmet and just accept whatever fine he was forced to pay by the NHL, however, Bettman and the NHL took it a step further, warning Fleury that if he did so the organization would be faced with a n even steeper fine to pay.
Marc-Andre Fleury indicated he was planning to wear the mask anyway and pay the fine. The NHL then threatened the Wild organization with an additional significant fine.
Bettman Continues String Of Decisions Limiting Players Ability to Support Causes Near to Them
The decision comes in light of the controversy surrounding the NHL's decision to ban players from showing support for Pride Nights through the use of pride tape. This ban was lifted after Travis Dermott decided to use the tape anyway.
Pride Tape is back because Travis Dermott, a completely expendable defenceman on a one-year deal just above the league minimum, had the balls to stand up for his convictions at what could have been at a cost to his career.
It is clear that the NHL is trying drastic measures to keep its power in the face of players hoping to show their support for causes near to them. We will see how long this fight lasts.
