Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon comments on Fleury rumours; denies everything

Earlier Tuesday, a report by Frank Seravalli suggested that the Vegas Golden Knights were interested in reacquiring goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury from the Chicago Blackhawks. According to Seravalli, Vegas starter Robin Lehner has a torn labrum in his shoulder and will require surgery at some point, leading to the interest in getting Fleury back after what was a less than amicable split with the team. Following the report, Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon met with members of the media and denied all of it.

"There is absolutely no credence to that rumour at all," said McCrimmon. "I wouldn't normally speak (officially) on such things, but there will be so much racket about this, it's important to let people know that's not going to happen."

With that from McCrimmon, this seems like a non-issue now. However, it's important to note that Seravalli is rarely wrong and usually doesn't speculate unless there is information to back it up. If Lehner has to miss time, especially the rest of the regular season, there's no reason for the Knights not to at least inquire about what it would take to get Fleury back. The bigger issue would be whether Fleury himself is willing to return. As mentioned, the trade that saw Fleury getting shipped to the Blackhawks was a shock to him and many others. However, at 37 years old, Fleury's chances at winning another Stanley Cup aren't as easy to come by as they once were, and most other contenders already have their goaltending figured out, barring any injuries, of course.

Lehner will not be in the lineup for the Golden Knights' game against the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday. Whether he can wait until the end of the season to have the surgery remains to be seen.
