Last night's 7-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils appeared to be the final straw for Canadiens management. According to Jean-Charles Lajoie of TVA Sports, the Canadiens are expected to announce the firing of Dominique Ducharme on Wednesday.

"Imminent announcement at the #CH Dominique Ducharme would be relieved of his duties. More details to come @jic_tvasports" Lajoie said in a tweet.

The Canadiens have since made the official announcement. A new head coach will be named later Wednesday.

Ducharme, 48, joined the Canaidens in April of 2018 as an assistant coach, before being promoted to interim head coach in February of last year due to the firing of Claude Julien.

After helping Montreal reach the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 1993, Ducharme was rewarded with a three-year contract extension and had the interim tag removed.

Montreal's season has not gone as anyone has expected. They currently sit dead last in the NHL with a record of 8-30-7 through 45 games.

More to come.
