Reid Boucher avoids jail time, with conditions, in sexual assault case

Reid Boucher, former NHLer and current KHLer, has managed to avoid any jail time in his sentencing for sexual assault. The 28-year-old recently pleaded guilty to the charge for an incident involving his 12-year-old billet sister in Michigan in 2011. Boucher was 17 at the time.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Boucher "will serve four years of probation, with one year of jail time suspended if he successfully completes the probation."

Boucher is still under contract with Yaroslavl Lokomotiv of the KHL. The league is currently on an Olympic break.

Boucher was originally charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, which carries a sentence of 25 years to life in prison. However, during a court appearance in December, the judge "agreed to let Boucher enter a plea for the lesser charge and agreed to sentence him with no upfront jail time through the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act, or HYTA. Under HYTA, the case won't appear on Boucher's public record if he successfully completes his sentence."

Court documents stated Boucher coerced the 12-year-old into sexual contact twice using threats of exposing a video of her dancing the first time, and threatening to tell people about the first incident the second time. At the time of his plea to the lesser charge, the woman, now 23, was upset that Boucher would likely not serve time in prison.
