The heartbreaking injury fate of Montreal Canadiens fifth overall pick David Reinbacher was officially confirmed by the organization.

Two important players were injured over the weekend in a preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the first five minutes of the clash, David Reinbacher and Patrik Line both left the ice and never returned.

The Canadiens finally shared an update on Reinbacher's condition. They revealed that the defenseman got knee surgery that'll force him to miss five to six months of action.

Check out their statement, which they posted on X:

This is terrible for the 19-year-old defenseman. He was going to start his first full season in North America with the Laval Rocket in the AHL following a tough year in Kloten. In Laval, he would've played a lot of minutes and meaningful games, which wouldn've been very good for his development. Unfortunately, this could have a severe impact on his ascension to the NHL.

However, Habs fans can find comfort knowing that Lane Hutson should start the season in Montreal. Hutson is on his way to become an NHL superstar, and just to watch him play is a privilege. While Reinbacher's injury is a tough blow, the blue line will be in good hands, even in Laval, where Logan Mailloux and Adam Engstrom should lead the team to the playoffs.

Everyone in Montreal is now eagerly waiting for an update on Patrik Laine's injury.
