New York Rangers superstar Artemi Panarin injured in preseason game: status unknown

New York Rangers superstar Artemi Panarin's status is unknown after suffering an injury during a preseason game against the New York Islanders.

The New York Rangers have had the privilege of maintaining Artemi Panarin on their roster since the 2019-2020 season. After two seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks and Columbia Blue Jackets each, the former Calder Memorial Trophy winner has posted a staggering 149 goals and 461 total points in 350 regular season games with his current team. Perhaps more impressively, Panarin became the second NHLer to have his first four goals of a single postseason all be game-winning nearly 50 years after former Islander Clark Gillies pulled off the feat in 1977.

However, things have started to sour for the 32-year-old forward. The New York Rangers had their second preseason game tonight, Tuesday, September 24th, facing off against the New York Islanders. With roughly six minutes left in the third period, Artemi Panarin was observed heading down the tunnel, leaving many viewers concerned about his physical status.

Unfortunately, New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette shared that Artemi Panarin is currently being evaluated. According to all accounts, the veteran forward is dealing with a lower-body injury. Joining him in recovery is defenseman Ryan Lindgren, who also exited early following sustaining an injury during a fight against Islanders defenceman Scott Mayfield. At this point, there are no confirmations of their return, nor what caused Panarin's ailment.

"Rangers forward Artemi Panarin and defenceman Ryan Lindgren both exited Tuesday's game early after they sustained lower-body and upper-body injuries, respectively.

According to Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette, Panarin is still being evaluated. He left the game near the six-minute mark in the third period, however, it's unclear how the four-time All-Star was hurt.

 

 

Despite losing two players to injury throughout the game, the New York Rangers were able to take down the New York Islanders 6-4. Though they play their next preseason game at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, they will likely focus more of their concerns on their regular season start on Wednesday, October 9th against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Hopefully, Artemi Panarin and Ryan Lindgren have a quick recovery, otherwise, the Rangers could be out of their depth early in the 2024-25 season.
