Disgusting Toronto Maple Leafs fans disrespect Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau during moment of silence

There are no words to describe the tragedy that befell the family and the hockey community after the loss of Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau. Both were well-known on the ice as great players, but even better people, and the league has taken every chance they could get since their passing to honor the late Columbus Blue Jackets forward and his brother. With the NHL 2024-25 preseason officially underway, several teams took the opportunity to show a league-wide memorial video, followed by honoring them with 13 seconds of silence. Among these teams were the New Jersey Devils ad Boston Bruins.

However, one game's live viewers did not bring the same amount of reverence required for the late Gaudreau brothers. The Toronto Maple Leafs started their preseason against the Ottawa Senators at their home ice of Scotiabank Arena. Though the video presentation went as planned, several Leafs fans took the 13-second moment of silence to shout out in support of their team. Though cheering for your team is expected, there is a time for that. This was, clearly, not that time.

Along with the disgusting behavior of these fans, the Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the Ottawa Senators 6-5 in overtime. They play their next game together at the Canadian Tire Center on Thursday. Hopefully, playing in a different arena will bring more respectful fans than they saw tonight. Unfortunately, only time will tell if these bad apples learned anything at all.
