In some devastating news, Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie has announced that he will not be playing hockey this season and placed on LTIR.

Washington Capitals announced on Wednesday that forward T.J. Oshie will be placed on long-term injured reserve and therefore miss the entire 2024-2025 season.

"The last season was challenging for me, my family, and my teammates as I dealt with a chronic back injury that kept me out of the lineup," Oshie said in a statement. "I have used the offseason to explore and pursue long-term solutions for my injury. I remain committed to the process and am working and doing my best to regain total health. In the meantime, I will continue to help and support my teammates and the organization in any way I can. I greatly appreciate all of our fans' support during this time."

Medical clearance for game action, unfortunately, did not come Wednesday for the 37-year-old winger.

From Mount Vernon, Washington, Oshie appeared in 52 games last season with 12 goals and 13 assists. He celebrated the major milestone of his 1,000th career game in a March 16 contest against the Vancouver Canucks.

Drafted 24th overall during the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Oshie has appeared in 1,010 NHL games over 16 seasons between the Capitals and St. Louis Blues. He has totaled 302 goals and 695 points in his career, which ranks 37th in career points for United States-born players.
