Nick Robertson has made it clear he wants out of Toronto, but could this lead to a conference rival making a play at him via the controversial offer sheet?
However, the 22-year old remains an RFA, and after the dual offer sheets we saw earlier in the summer with the Edmonton Oilers, absolutely nothing is off the table. Now, a new report has revealed that the Carolina Hurricanes, who themselves were in danger of an offer sheet for Martin Necas before he signed a two-year deal, could be a player in acquiring Nick Robertson via this method.
We've seen them do it before, as they acquired Jesperi Kotkaniemi from Montreal via offer sheet, and with a need for young, talented wingers to bolster their already deep roster, it makes more and more sense, so keep a close eye on new GM Eric Tulsky and this front office over the next few weeks.
While the injury issues for Robertson remain a concern, it's hard to deny his talent when he's on the ice, and if a team can land him for cheap given that Toronto don't have a need for him, it would be a good pickup for a young team or a contending team alike, so look for something huge to break before the season begins.
