Jake Guentzel humiliates the Pittsburgh Penguins with new comments
Today a new interview with Jake Guentzel revealed his feelings about heading to the Tampa Bay Lightning and why he chose to leave the Pittsburgh Penguins.
This offseason has been a chaotic one with many different teams hitting the reset button on their core. The Pittsburgh Penguins started that process last season by trading star winger Jake Guentzel.
With no extension in place Jake Guentzel played out the season with the Carolina Hurricanes and was heading for free agency. However, just days before free agency he was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning and immediately signed an extension.
We have signed forward Jake Guentzel to a seven-year contract worth an AAV of $9 million.
After signing with the Tampa Bay Lightning Jake Guentzel finally spoke for the first time. In his remarks, he took a major shot at his former team the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Jake Guentzel torches the Pittsburgh Penguins with new comments
Today Jake Guentzel spoke to local media for the first time since signing with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He was asked about his thoughts on heading to a new team and he seems incredibly excited for a chance to be back with a Stanley Cup contender.
He continued and said the last season was a huge challenge for him between being injured and being traded. He is excited to work with a whole new team toward getting back to the Stanley Cup Finals.
Since seeing this many fans are taking these comments as a direct shot at his former team the Pittsburgh Penguins who have struggled to win the past few seasons. It also relates back to comments he made about originally wanting to stay in Pittsburgh but being passed over by GM Kyle Dubas.
Now Jake Guentzel heads to another opportunity and will come in to replace Steven Stamkos who signed with the Nashville Predators. It will be fun to see if he can take this new chance and run with it or if he will suffer similar experiences to his recent years in Pittsburgh.
