All signs pointed towards the Leafs resigning Tyler Bertuzzi to a contract, however things quickly turned sour as Bertuzzi ultimately chose to sign in Chicago, even though the Hawks were never on his radar initiallly. That definitely raised some eyebrows.
Bertuzzi admitted that he had a chat with Nick Foligno prior to the opening of free agency, who ultimately changed his mind, leading Bertuzzi to sign with the Hawks. People have now accused Bertuzzi and Foligno of tampering, as it is strictly forbidden for players to speak with any teams prior to July 1st.
Whether the league will investigate Foligno and Bertuzzi for what many are calling tampering remains to be seen, but NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has been quiet on this front, leading many to believe that no action will be taken. This isn't the first time people around the league have seen players talking to other teams prior to the start of free agency, and many fans are getting very frustrated losing their players over this.
