The Calgary Flames made an amazing pick by selecting Zayne Parekh 9th overall at the 2024 NHL entry draft, but he is now under fire for comments on Jett Luchanko.

The NHL released its draft video today, highlighting several of the NHL's newest prospects, including first overall pick Macklin Celebrini, fourth overall pick Cayden Lindstrom, son of Jarome Iginla Tij Iginla, Montreal Canadiens selection Michael Hage, and Calgary Flames 9th overall pick Zayne Parekh who is one of few players of southeast Asian descent in hockey.
Zayne Parekh is one of the smartest and most dynamic defensemen out of Canada in years, but he has been accused of having attitude issues over the years, and these were highlighted in this video. When the Philadelphia Flyers selected Jett Luchanko, in an incredible scene with announcer Michael Buffer, Zayne Parekh had an unexpected negative reaction:
Jett Luchanko went 13? Wow...
Here is the video of Jett Luchanko's selection, which is sure to be a cult favourite for years to come:
While Luchanko may have not been the best player available on most boards, the Philadelphia Flyers got their guy, and that's all that matters in what is such a wide open draft.
If Zayne Parekh cannot fix his negative attitude, his journey to the NHL may not be as easy as expected. The NHL is a whole different ballgame than the OHL, and he needs to be ready.
