San Jose Sharks and Buffalo Sabres make trade involving two first round picks

Today the Buffalo Sabres and San Jose Sharks have made a major trade ahead of the 2024 NHL Draft involving first-round picks.

The Buffalo Sabres announced this afternoon that they have traded the 11th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. In return, they will receive the 14th pick and a 2024 2nd round pick.
The Buffalo Sabres have acquired a 1st-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft (14th overall) and a 2nd-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft (42nd overall) from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 1st-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft (11th overall).
We have acquired the 14th and 42nd overall picks in the 2024 NHL Draft from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for the 11th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.
The Buffalo Sabres had been looking to move down for several days according to reports. Now they move back 3 spots and pick up an extra second-round pick. For the San Jose Sharks they slide up in the draft trying to find someone to pair with expected top pick Macklin Celebrini.
This trade will be one that will be looked back upon over several years as the players involved are evaluated. For now each team heads into the NHL Draft looking to upgrade their team and get back into the playoff race.
