Austin Watson handed multi-game suspension by DoPS (w/video explanation)
The NHL's Department of Player Safety announced on Sunday morning that Ottawa Senators forward has been suspended two games for interference on Boston Bruins defenceman Jack Ahcan.
The incident occurred nearly half-way through the first period on Saturday afternoon. Ahcan was in the corner of his own zone with the puck and went to rim it up the boards. After the puck is gone, Watson comes in and delivers a hit to Ahcan that caught him in the head. Watson received two minutes for interference, while Bruins forward Anton Blidh was given two minutes for roughing while coming to Ahcan's defence.
Watson, a native of Ann Arbor (Michigan), has appeared in 31 games this season for the Ottawa Senators where he's tallied three points (two goals, one assist), fifty-five penalty minutes and is a minus-eight.
The 30-year-old will miss Ottawa's game this afternoon against Washington, as well as Tuesday's game against the St. Louis Blues. Watson will be eligible to return to the Senators' lineup on Thursday against the Buffalo Sabres.
