After nine years with the Carolina Hurricanes, Brett Pesce is reportedly turning to the dark side and signing with their Metropolitan Division rivals: the New Jersey Devils.

Brett Pesce has had a long and, save this season, dominating career with the Carolina Hurricanes. However, after nine years on the team, the 29-year-old defenseman is entering free agency. Understandably, the player has become a target for a few teams, including the New Jersey Devils.
"Per 32 Thoughts Podcast,

Elliotte Friedman suspects the Devils are one of the teams interested in Brett Pesce

That's big

#NJDevils"
Yet, it appears these swirling trade rumors are more than just talk. Carolina's Metropolitan Division rival, The New Jersey Devils, is now a clear frontrunner to pick up Pesce on July 1st, returning the New York native to his original stomping grounds.
"The smoke is swirling around the Devils being the favorites to sign former Hurricanes defensemen Brett Pesce, a Tarrytown, NY native.

Pesce played for the North Jersey Avalanche and New Jersey Hitmen before going to the University of New Hampshire. Reunion? 🔜⏳ #NJDevils"
Yet, with the Canes defenseman likely taking a 6-year contract, questions about the Devils own John Marino. With this much of the team's defense budget being eaten up, many assume he will likely be traded following the deal with Pesce.
"100% sounds like Brett Pesce will be a #NJDevils defenseman on July 1.

Notably, his contract is projected at 6 years @ 5.5 million as per
@EvolvingHockey
.

Also have to anticipate this means John Marino will be traded soon."
With nearly a week before free agency kicks in, we will still have some time before anything trade is official. However, with the publicity of all these discussions, it Brett Pesce could well stat the upcoming season as a New Jersey Devil.
