Cole Shudra, who plays with the Sheffield Steelers of the EIHL, will be punished after hitting an opponent with several crosschecks and getting kicked out of game.

Professional hockey at all levels has the potential to get dirty, but there's a line and players need to make sure they hold themselves accountable for their actions. A player from the EIHL, of British Elite League, is awaiting punishment after crossing the line with several crosschecks to an opponent.

In an official recap of the Challenge Cup game between the Sheffield Steelers and Cardiff Devils, it's noted that the Steelers Cole Shudra was booted from the game for hitting Tyler Busch with several crosschecks. The second shot catches Busch in the ear and he goes down. Shudra just kept hitting him over and over while he's falling, and then hits him with another while he's on the ice.

"The period started on a tough note for Sheffield at 21:56 when Cole Shudra was ejected with a five-plus game penalty for cross-checking. In a heated exchange in his own zone, Shudra took issue with Tyler Busch, delivering a series of hard hits against the plexiglass, culminating with Busch down on the ice. Though the cause was unclear, it may have been retaliation for the earlier injury to teammate Colton Saucerman."

There has not yet been any sign of supplimental discipline coming from the EIHL's Department of Player Safety, but there's little doubt Cole Shudra will get more than just the initial five minutes and game misconduct.

Controversial plays have been big stories over the past couple of days. In the NHL, two former players called out Noah Acciari of the Pittsburgh Penguins and officials for what they felt was a dirty hit on Juraj Slafkovsky of the Montreal Canadiens. The NHL has already made its decision in that incident.
