The Detroit Red Wings have placed goaltender Ville Husso on waivers today after a rough start to the NHL season.

In one game this season, Ville Husso was pulled after 25:28 of play, repping a brutal .714 save percentage, and a 9.41 goals against average. This comes after two consecutive tough years for the 29 year old, who signed a three-year, $14.25 million contract with the team following a stand out season with the St. Louis Blues in 2021-22.

With the Red Wings having signed significant goaltending depth, in Alex Lyon, Cam Talbot, and Jack Campbell, who recently entered the NHLPA Players Assistance Program, the need for the overpaid Finnish netminder is lesser than it was. With the team trying to take a step out of its rebuild, a sub-.900 save percentage is not enough.

The Detroit Red Wings equally have promising goaltenders coming up in their system, with 2023 second-round pick Trey Augustine looking fantastic, as well as 11th overall behemoth Sebastian Cossa. Husso is simply no longer needed.

Equally on waivers today is Montreal Canadiens forward Alex Barre-Boulet, who signed with his hometown team this offseason after nearly a decade in the Tampa Bay Lightning's system.

While it is unlikely that Ville Husso will be claimed on waivers due to his massive salary, it is possible that there will be a market for Alex Barre-Boulet due to his speedy forechecking abilities and strong playmaking skill. We will find out at 2:00 PM tomorrow whether or not these players get a second chance with another team.
