In a post on X, the Avalanche organization revealed that the veteran Andrew Cogliano is hanging up the skates after 17 seasons in the NHL.
Cogliano was drafted 25th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in 2005. Since then, in addition of the Oilers, he played for the Anaheim Ducks, Dallas Stars, San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche.
He scored 190 goals and 274 assists in 1294 regular season games, as well as 13 goals and 27 assists in 131 playoff games.
Cogliano also won the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022.
The Colorado Avalanche will need to replace him, and we can expect the organization to make a few moves in the coming weeks.
Despite a disappointing playoff exit in the second round of the playoffs against the Dallas Stars, the Avs should remain among the best teams in the NHL next season. If they can make a few depth acquitisions to fill holes in the lineup, they'll once again need to be taken seriously going into the 2024-25 season.
